a lot of hope in a one man tent There's no room for innocence. so take me home before the storm. velvet moths will keep us warm. whispering morning keep the streets empty for me. ------------------------------------- Not for the first time, Lily could feel him watching her. The now familiar, but unwelcome, sensation of nervousness overcame her, eating away at the pit of her stomach. Even as she tried to keep her focus on the book she was pouring over, her hand tightened into a fist, her nails digging into her palms. Her heart seemed to clench in her chest. Though the young red head remained stationary, she was mentally scanning the area for exits.
It was horrible knowing that the only place she had ever considered to be her home was now her prison. She couldn't go anywhere without him keeping his eyes on her. Though she didn't dare to tear her gaze from the now blurry pages of the large, ancient book, she could just imagine the gleam in his eyes, the same gleam they held when he was over top of her. For a moment, Lily's eyes shut tight, trying to block out any thoughts about that night, but to no avail.
She knew he was watching her to make sure she didn't tell. In all honesty, she wanted to tell. The moment he climbed off of her, Lilian would have run to her brother, had she been given the choice. There was no telling anyone though. With so much as a hint, he would probably slit her throat and Eric's as well. She wasn't half as worried for her own life as she was for Eric's. As horrible as it may have sounded, she wanted it all to end, she was just too cowardly to take her own life. She would much rather give in to eternal damnation in Mourinor than let him have his way with her again.
"Let" was a bad word for it, but Lily didn't fully understand that. In her mind she could have done anything to stop him. Maybe she just hadn't tried hard enough? The feeling of gut wrenching guilt overwhelmed her almost constantly. Why couldn't she have been stronger? Faster? Anything to have stopped him from pinning her down.
She could never get away from him. Even one of her teachers had mentioned to her, in a congratulatory tone, that the very man who raped her was seriously considering taking her on as an apprentice. Of course, the teacher knew nothing about what transpired, nobody did and nobody ever would. The more Lily thought about it, the more she was ashamed of what happened. Perhaps she was better off keeping it to herself anyway.
The sound of two feet walking by her caused Lily's entire body to tense. Almost of its own accord, Lily's head finally rose, her eyes locking on his. Nausea hit her when their eyes met and she wanted nothing more than to throw up. Just as she could feel the bile rising in her throat, his head turned and he waltzed from the library as if he owned the place... and therefore owned her. Letting out a breath of air, Lilian slumped in her chair, her head spinning. Her face was pale and she wanted nothing more than to sink so far down into the chair that the hardened wood would just absorb her. Nobody could take advantage of a chair.
When the clock started to chime, she knew that she needed to get back to her work; the library would be closing to students in another hour and she would have to head back down to the student's dormitory. With an exam the following day in Illusion magic, she knew she had to study harder than usual. Unlike her brother, Lily was far from adept when it came to Illusion. If anything, it was her worst subject. Lily was an exceptional student, but even she had her weaknesses. Now though, she was throwing herself into her studies more than ever. She hardly spoke to anyone since what happened. She'd even been avoiding Eric at all costs, afraid that if he such much as looked at her he would know what happened. The last thing she wanted was for him to think any less of her.
It wasn't long before Lily's eyes started to droop. With her head resting in her hand, she found herself reading and rereading the same line of text over and over again...
The sky was growing darker by the second, the sound of horns echoing through the air, signalling the hunt. A gust of wind swept by, blowing fallen leaves across her bare feet. Closely followed by the sound of the horns came the sound of a wolf howling. No... not one wolf. Lily stood there, her heart pounding as she tried counting the number of wolves howling. It was difficult to tell how many there were as well as where they were coming from.
A bone chilling laugh sounded from behind her. Rooted to the spot, Lilian didn't dare turn around, even as she felt the demon's hot breath upon the back of her neck. Chills wracked her body, her fear threatening to overcome her. The sound of his voice was eerily familiar. She'd heard it once before, when he'd been telling that sick man to kill her. Nobody could know of the pact between arcane master and demon. These memories came over her as he leaned down to whisper into her ear. "Run..."
That was exactly what she did. Numbly moving forward, Lily picked up the skirt of her nightgown, picking up speed. The sound of the demon's laughter filled the air, sounding from all around her. As she looked back though, she only saw the bare trees swaying in the darkness and a wolf running out onto the trail before stopping to watch her with his piercing blue eyes. Her heart seemed as though it would pound out of her chest as she turned her head once more to watch where she was going. It was a good thing too considering she nearly ran right into a tree.
Branches were cutting at her cold face, but she couldn't slow. She could hear the wolf running after her, two more joining his flanks. The horns still sounded through the air. She was the one being hunted. They were snapping at her heels and she knew that if she were to slow even the slightest bit, they would be on her, tearing her to shreds.
Coming upon the river, she nearly stopped, her heart sinking. The current was strong and fast... she would never survive the crossing. Lungs burning from the cold air, she started to slow, ready to give up. That is, until she saw the darkened figure of the demon, pointing. Her amber brown eyes followed his finger to the bridge and, without hesitation, she ran to it.
The bridge was old and barely supported her weight upon it, especially as she ran across it, nearly falling. An eerie ripping noise filled her ears before she could reach the other side. Despite what her instincts were telling her, she stopped and turned to see the blue eyed wolf staring at her from the other end of the bridge. The ancient ropes were tearing and neither of them dared to move, frozen with fear. It was just moments later when the bridge collapsed and the two plummeted into the torrents below.
Lily half expected it to end right there. Sinking beneath the surface though, her hands desperately grabbed for something anything, until the finally grabbed hold of what remained of the bridge. Using it to pull her above the rapids, Lily hung there for a moment, eyes searching for the blue eyed wolf. He was nowhere in sight, though his two buddies on the other side of the river howled as if in mourning.
Breathing heavily, Lily climbed the bridge that hung from her side of the river. Finally reaching the top, soaked and shivering, she collapsed onto the ground, unsure if she would ever be able to move her aching limbs again. She closed her eyes for a moment, wanting to just lay there forever, despite her chill.
The sound of a deep growl sounded over her as the smell of smoke filled her nose. Very slowly, Lily lifted her head, eyes widening with fear. The forest was ablaze around her and the wolf... the blue eyed wolf stood before her, his eerily familiar eyes boring into her. "Lily...." he said, causing her brows to furrow in confusion. He sounded familiar... his voice was just like- "LILY!"
Heart pounding, Lily jolted awake, lifting her head from the book she had been studying from before her untimely nap. Familiar, piercing blue eyes stared at her and she vaguely wondered how long she had been sleeping for. The clock was starting to chime once more and she knew that she had missed lights out. The student's caretaker was likely looking for her...

Eric called his sister's name quietly at first, but his tone grew louder until he finally touched her shoulder to create some sort of force to get her to open her eyes. Had he not been so curious as to where she'd gotten to he might have let her sleep, well... that and the library was closing for the night and he didn't want her to get in trouble for falling asleep instead of using the library to study. Seeing her resting made him realize he couldn't remember that last time he even really spoke with her. She looked tired, he give her that but he had always been tired like that when he had to take exams. He would study himself sleep deprived and then wonder the next morning why he kept failing to pass the tests he'd be taking and nearly kill someone in the process. Dragging his blue eyes across her face while knitting his brows together, he let his lips part a little bit before saying her name again. "LILLY." He said this quietly, but with more force before he tilted his head slightly to see her reaction. When she jolted awake, his one brow arched long and wide and he just stared at her as if she had two heads. The Arcane master heard someone walking toward them, one of the Library staff was walking around to make sure everyone was gone. Eric ignored her and instead looked back at his groggy sister. "This is what your bed is for, how long have you been in here? And why do you look like you haven't slept in weeks?" He knew for a fact he sounded like a bickering mother, so it quick pulled back his tone and also retreated him body a step or two away from her. With the chimes going off once more he knew he would have to escort Lily to her room so she wouldn't get into it with the teacher. He held back a sigh and started to grab some of her things to help her clean up. Just looking at her made him want to blurt out something about not seeing her lately, but at the same time he didn't want to stress her out about something else besides the exams that she was probably studying for. "That's why she hasn't been around, don't think too much into it, asshole." he thought to himself before finally letting his crystal clear eyes lock onto his sister's. He remembered her being small at one time hell... she was still small, she wasn't eight years old with missing teeth and crazy pigtails, but she was still small to him. As much as he tried to help her with her studies, Eric knew he got on her nerves most of the time. He taught in a very matter-of-factly way that was very frustrating at times, this he knew and fully admitted.
The library assistant came strolling up to them, a look of bitterness in her eyes as she stopped by the table Lily and Eric were occupying. "Did you not hear the chimes, Ms.?" Her brown eyes glanced from Lily, down to her books and then over to Eric where she had to look up slightly. Eric might not have been the most famous Master on the grounds because he was still technically young and had lots of time to make himself known, but if the woman knew who he was and the temper he had she probably wouldn't have opened her mouth, or at least worded her sentence in a different manner. Eric's eyes met the librarian, and although the blue in his eyes seemed startling, he had slight kind tone to his voice. "I am escorting her now, Ma'am. The chimes have rung, but not all of us are looking to high tail it out of here for fear of the wrath of a librarian, now if you please.. I think a Master can escort a tired student back to her chambers without harm." His tone was almost threatening at the end, with a creepy sense of happy. The brown-eyed woman looked a bit startled, and she wouldn't dare look offended now realizing what he was and she nodded once before turning and walking away rather stiffly. With an almost snort of disgust Eric turned back toward Lily and shifted his tongue in his mouth like he had a foul taste left over in it after talking to the woman.
Once again while she cleaned up her books, without a word he watched her almost softly. As much as he wanted to tell himself to stop, he couldn't help but feel like something was different about her. It wasn't even her appearance, it was everything about her. He was as much of a father to her as he was a brother, so he knew her in's and out's, her emotions and the way she hid things. The shift in her eye ever so slightly telling him to stop trying to figure her out, the way she self consciously tugged at her strands of hair to push them behind her ears without purpose. He could pick her apart like the way he picked apart an injured deer in a group of twenty or so. When she wouldn't meet his gaze aside from her earlier wake-up call, he started to get defensive right off the bat, but it was little things that he did. She didn't speak much and it bothered him, but then maybe she was just tired? No. He knew her better, even when tired she could carry on a conversation. His memory booted back to when she was five and so used to talking his ear off that she literally kept talking until her eyes closed and her words slurred, when he looked up to see her face she was snoring in the light puppy-like way a five year old snores. Staying close enough to her while escorting her out of the library, he looked straight away down the dimly lit hall while listening indirectly to the falling gates of the library as the bitchy woman sighed loudly enough for them to hear as they walked away from her.
Silence was the main thing that bothered him as they walked down the corridor. She wasn't blabbing away like she normally did with him, and he almost felt out of place. He was never the one to talk, Eric was the one to listen to his spit-fire sister, to nod when she needed him to, to make a face of disgust on cue and scoff strategically. With her acting this way it was almost like something in Eric's daily puzzle wasn't fitting. When something was broken it made him so ungodly uncomfortable things that he would like to keep at bay started to unfurl. Swallowing quickly after what seemed like minutes of mutes getting to know each other he cleared his throat and eyed her once more before opening his mouth. "Let me guess what your exam is on...." He said this in the best playful tone he could muster up, but it soon hung in the air much like the growing uneasiness of the big brother. Narrowing his eyes at her when she didn't answer, he huffed and shoved his hands in his pockets like he was twenty again. He was almost worried to ask what was wrong, but she was bringing the child out in him more and more and he didn't like it...

a lot of hope in a one man tent There's no room for innocence. so take me home before the storm. velvet moths will keep us warm. whispering morning keep the streets empty for me. ------------------------------------- Lily was almost embarrassed to have been caught sleeping in the middle of the library. In a matter of seconds, her face went from pale to crimson as she started gathering her things, quickly. "I didn't mean to fall asleep," she said, throat feeling tight. She loved her brother dearly, but at that moment she wanted nothing more than to abandon her things and bolt out the nearest exit. "I was studying."
The sound of the library assistant's voice caused the young red head to jump, visibly startled. She wasn't usually so jumpy or so soft-spoken. Considering what she had gone through though, it was understandable. "S-sorry," she muttered, almost nervously, even as her brother covered for her. She merely glanced at him, still refusing to meet his eyes, even as he helped to gather her things.
Getting to her feet and holding her books tightly to her chest, Lilian made her way to the nearest exit. If she had been trying to get away from Eric, doing so was useless considering how small her strides were in comparison to his, no matter how fast she was attempting to go. Knowing full well that he was walking beside her, she didn't dare speak a word for fear that she might say something to give her predicament away. If she told him what had happened, they would both be dead. She knew full well that her brother was a talented mage, but to go against a corrupted arcane master and a demon? No... Lily would much rather stay silent than lose her brother. Besides, just considering the way Eric might think of her after learning what happened. It broke her heart; she didn't want him looking at her any differently. She didn't want his pity, but most of all, she didn't want him to be angry with her.
The very notion of him being angry with her was absurd, but she wasn't thinking clearly and hand't been since that night in the forest. Eric was rarely upset with her. They never fought and, in all honest, this was the most distant Lily had been with him since the last time he left her alone with their father. That was long ago, but not so long ago that Lily had forgotten how her brothers would leave her to fend for herself against their father. Perhaps they really hadn't known what went on when they weren't there, or maybe they just chose to ignore it. Still, her father was dead and the beatings she had taken were long in the past. Now, she had bigger problems.
Clenching her teeth, Lily didn't want Eric to see that tears were stinging her eyes as they walked the halls. Keeping her head slightly bowed and eyes glued to the floor, the silence between them was almost deafening, even for her. She wanted to throw her books down, she wanted to scream at him, she wanted to cry... Her fists clenched and she took in a breath of air when he suddenly spoke.
Closing her mouth, she could tell he was growing impatient. His childish frustration was palpable and, any other time, Lily would have smiled. She was silent for a few moments when he inquired about her exam., honestly not wanting to answer even the simplest of questions. Still, as he shoved his hands into his pockets and huffed like a little boy who wasn't getting his way, she started to feel bad. She didn't want him to think that she hated him in any way. "Illusion magics..." she said, voice barely audible.
Her answer was short and simple, but it was something. Perhaps it would be enough to get him off of her back. The last thing she needed was him growing suspicious and investigating the source of her problems. The very thought made her sick to her stomach. She couldn't lose him, she just couldn't. Eric was all that she had left. No matter how powerful he might be, he couldn't protect her anymore... nobody could.
"You don't have to walk me to the dormitory..." she said, attempting to not sound frustrated. She needed to get away from him before he started asking questions or started to get suspicious. Most of all though, she needed to get away from him before she told him everything. With that thought in mind, she swore she could feel someone's eyes on her and the sensation made her shiver. She didn't dare look behind her or into the shadows of the dimly lit halls for fear of seeing the eyes of the demon staring back at her. "I know my way." The last thing Lily wanted to do was hurt Eric, but if that's what she had to do to keep him safe then she would.
The sound of their footsteps in the silence grew increasingly more eerie. Body tensing with every step, Lilian forced herself to keep her mouth shut. She knew that she was being watched no matter what she did, whether it was by that horrible man or by the demon. Whether or not Eric could feel it, she didn't know, but she certainly could. The very idea of this made her want to break down and cry. She was going to go through life jumping at every shadow and being deathly afraid of the dark. When she swore she saw a shadow creeping along the wall, out of the corner of her eye, she forced herself to ignore it.

Eric was waiting for her to speak even though he knew very well what she was having trouble studying with. Illusion magics was something that he himself was quite good at. He remembered having very little trouble while learning to control it too, but that was not something for everyone. Eric was sure where Lily had her weaknesses, she had her strengths too. What he wasn't expecting was the way the words came from her lips in an almost cold manner, or scared. Eric wasn't one for being thrown off... but well he was thrown off by the way his sister was acting. Narrowing his eyes slightly Eric kept his eyes looking forward so she didn't think he was catching onto what she was trying to hide. She was always terrible at lying, at least Eric thought so. Speaking of Illusion magic, he felt like jolting her with a healthy shot of a better feeling but refrained from doing so. It was never right to do that to someone younger than him, let alone his sister. Removing his hands from his pockets he ran a hand through his blond hair and sighed as quietly as possible. She couldn't be stressing over a exam this bad, and even if she was Lily would be acting in a different way. He went to open his mouth to say something but for the first time tonight she spoke before he did. Eric's jaw dropped a fraction of an inch after hearing her words, but he didn't falter in his step. Of course she knew her way to her room, he figured she'd like some company at least. That was what the normal Lily would have liked, and the fact that he just saved her ass and needed to drop her off so she wouldn't get in trouble for being so late. What she said was kind of a low blow whether she wanted it to be or not, his mind quickly starting to think of a reason as to why she'd be pissed at him, that was the only reason he could think of her being so off put toward him.
He didn't say anything at first to her comment, but instead kept his strides as equal as his long legs would allow to her's. His blue eyes slide over to look at her face noting that she wouldn't look at him, not even that fiery glance she would give him if she had been pissed at him. Eric was a quick learner and it was even more obvious to tell what someone was feeling when he grew up with her. Watching her for a moment or two longer his eyes then flicked forward, ignoring the sudden shiver that recoiled around up and down his body. With Lily being the only thing he had left, he honestly hated when she was angry with him, it made him feel even worse about himself because he knew it wasn't too hard to keep Lily happy with him, all he needed to do was be there for her. Did he miss something? Had she been angry because he wasn't helping her study with something he was strong in? Had he forgotten she'd asked him? He racked his brain and then looked at her in a guilty way, not knowing that she wasn't angry with him and what it should have been was the other way around.
"I really think I should take you... I know you know the way, but your late. You don't want to get in trouble, do you?" He said this with an under lying tone of confusion because of the way she was acting. Normally if someone else had spoken to him like that he would have dropped them thirty seconds ago. They weren't too far from her dorm now, and he was going to be stubborn about this to figure out what was wrong with her. Everything he was reading about her screamed something other than anger toward him, so he played it quiet and decided he would poke and prod. She was right to have been avoiding him because he wasn't someone to just let her go by herself for one, and to go by herself in this sulky mood of hers without finding out what happened first. Before she could snap at him if she really was pissed, he eyed her one more time and then said, "It would help instead of just shunning me to tell me why your angry with me." He said this softly, keeping his blue eyes on her face which looked more and more distraught even in the dim light of the halls. Eric was one to talk about shunning and ignoring people when he was pissed, in fact he was famous for this. His anger was not something he wanted people to get mixed up in so he tended to leave the situation before he hurt someone. Lily was very different from him, or at least he thought.

a lot of hope in a one man tent There's no room for innocence. so take me home before the storm. velvet moths will keep us warm. whispering morning keep the streets empty for me. ------------------------------------- The girl's quarters, which were shared among all the female students, suddenly seemed entirely too far away for her. She didn't bother to argue with him when he insisted on walking her and she chose to simply ignore his question regarding whether or not she wanted to get into trouble. The silence that hung in the air was heavy, enough to suffocate a person.
Her face reddened when he mentioned her being mad at him. Of course she was mad at him, she was mad at the world! Where was he when she was being taken advantage of? Why did something like that have to happen to her? Why did everything happen to her? What did she do to deserve that man pinning her down and-
The thought made her feel ill. Digging her finger nails into the spine of one of the books in her hands, Lily clenched her teeth, her muscles tensing. Older brothers were supposed to protect their younger siblings, but she wasn't seeing that anymore. She'd been left to fend for herself, against a man two... maybe three times her age.
"I'm not mad at you," she lied through clenched teeth. Her throat was beginning to feel tight and she was desperately trying to hold back tears. She'd been under the assumption that arcane masters could be trusted and yet one was delving into forbidden magic. If Lily had just stayed away that night, she never would have discovered this. She never would have been taken advantage of and she would still be wrapped up in her safe, little world. She had maintained the false impression that, in the tower, nothing could harm her again.
Funny... she never thought somebody could hurt her worse than her father had. "I'm just tired, that's all." Another badly told lie. Even as she said it, her eyes were watering. She didn't want to cry, she didn't want to break down. Then Eric really would know that something was wrong. If he ever found out... they were both dead. She was in deep and she would have to remain alone in her struggle; nobody could help her
With her eyesight growing blurrier, Lilian was worried that she might trip up the stairs. She let her hair fall from behind her ear, hoping that her long, red locks would serve as a shield and prevent Eric from seeing the look in her eyes. She was an idiot to think that the tower was her safe haven... or that her brother was her protector. Not for the first time since the ordeal, she contemplated what would happen if she were to just leave.
When her eyes started to overflow, she was overwhelmed. She was mortified of crying in front of him, but holding it back was futile. "Don't you have somewhere to be?" she snapped, venom and bitterness seeping into her tone. Though it was intended to merely get him away from her, to stop him from asking questions, she was startled to realize that she truly did feel a venomous rage toward him.

Eric arched his brow high though didn't say anything too quickly after his sister said she wasn't mad at him, although he could hear her words coming through her clenched teeth. He was afraid of her in the way most people are afraid of someone, he was afraid not that she would hurt him physically but instead mentally. She knew as much as he did what happened to his family, nobody was left alive besides the two of them and instead of shunning her and running off to do God knows what like an idiot, Eric in a way cling's to her like she's pure gold, because in family terms she was. Gold that at any moment change her feelings about him and hate him, the last thing in the world Eric wanted her to do was hate him. He already felt so responsible for so many things that happened in his family. Whether she realizes it or not, he knew what his father was doing to her while he and Robert were away. His father was an evil man and while Eric was at that age, he was the only being that ever really fearfully scared him after the death of his mother. He changed and it was a turn for the worst and Eric would avoid the man at all cost, as puny as it made him seem he did not care one bit. He was guilty as much as Robert was for not defending his sister and he regrets it still to this day. Maybe things would have changed and Rob wouldn't be dead if he'd been at the house earlier that day. Any time away from that evil man made his whole body relax it was unrealistic. He blinked a few times as he thought of the scene were his father lay dead and still bleeding onto the forest floor outside what was there now burning home. He didn't care. He watched the dead body for what seemed like forever just relishing in the fact that the man whom he'd been scared of, who gave him nightmares and terrors whenever he lifted his hand was now lifeless. Now several years later, the young man was stronger... at least he'd like to think he was.
It was Lily's voice that brought him back to the current situation and this time he looked at her once again, his blue eyes now seeming to have some sort of annoyance in them but she wasn't looking at him anyway. "Tired?" He wanted to snort in defiance toward her bad lie. Instead he just sighed and then ripped his eyes away from her in frustration. He knew what was going to come next, and he swallowed hard to try and control the overwhelming annoyance building up on his tongue. It may not seem like he had a lot of patience, but compared to the way he treated other people the way he was handling himself with his sister would astound other people.
Nearing the steps he planned to really say something more forceful because she was not being herself and he knew this and it was almost insulting that she wouldn't tell him. He noticed her strides lengthening and he matched them, her panicked vibes starting to pour from her body and he felt them and his own heart rate picked up. Before he could push her more Lily stopped him in his tracks. The venom that she spit out was not something he was used to hearing her use... at least not toward him. Ever. He stood halfway up the steps as she continued up them, her red hair protecting her face from his eyes. Blue eyes looking from one angle of her body to another as she continued up the steps he picked up his slighting hanging jaw and narrowed his eyes at the back of her head. Did he had somewhere to be? Of course he did, but he would rather see his sister and talk with her than go where ever he needed to be, no matter where or when he had to be there. She was getting the better side of him, as always.
Practically running up the steps after her, skipping two at a time he caught up with her quickly, the anger masking the hurt in his blue eyes. "When did it matter whether I had a place to be or not. Do you have somewhere to be? Someone to see?" He started exploding questions out toward her now like she was hiding something from him, he didn't exactly see the tears streaming down her face because he was still balanced behind her somewhat as he walked briskly to keep up. "If this is over a boy.... well that's ridiculous. Is that why you've been avoiding me? Afraid to say something? Was this boy suppose to take you to your dorm? Because if that's the reason just say something so I don't think your mad at me... that and... well I don't want to run into him." He was almost desperate in the reasons why she was acting like this. No, he didn't like the idea of his baby sister seeing guys, but that was out of his control at his point. Looking around frantically he picked up a jog for a few steps to come out in front of her and stop her in her tracks. Turning toward her she was forced to look up and his face fell.. and that was when he knew it wasn't a boy she was trying to hide from him. The six foot plus Arcane master looked as worried as a mother and he just stood quietly, his blue eyes piercing her, waiting for some explanation as to why she was doing this...

a lot of hope in a one man tent There's no room for innocence. so take me home before the storm. velvet moths will keep us warm. whispering morning keep the streets empty for me. ------------------------------------- Hot tears streamed down Lily's face. For the first time in what seemed like forever, she made eye contact with Eric, when he stopped her in her tracks. Shamefully, she quickly looked away, her tears coming in torrents. He couldn't have been further from the truth. The last thing she wanted to think about was boys. After all, what guy would want her after what she had been though? She was damaged goods, or so she thought.
"No," she said, wishing, for probably the first time in her entire life, that her brother would just back off and go away. "That's not it! I told you, I'm just tired!" Her tone was sharp and icy, a tone of voice that she couldn't recall ever having used before. The tears pouring down her face said otherwise and she finally looked up at him again. The expression in her amber brown eyes was a torn one. Even deeper than that though was a look of pure pain and heartbreak.
Her legs trembled beneath her and, not for the first time since what happened, she felt sick and vulnerable. At that very moment, she wanted nothing more than to curl up and cry. Lily didn't care that they were still on the stairs. Sliding to the floor, she sat upon the cold, stone step, resting her side against the railing and hugging her knees.
As much as she wanted to tell him, she couldn't form the words and wasn't even sure that she wanted to. Her heart and mind were completely torn on the matter, the very subject eating away at her from the inside out. The last time Lilian had broken down like that... well, she'd been alone and lost in the forest, having just watched her father die.
Lily didn't want to think of that though; she didn't want to think of anything. She just wanted the pain to end, in all honesty. She wished he had killed her that night that she found him in the forest... it would have been better than going through the pain she was experiencing. Maybe she didn't deserve peace though. She ruined lives, she killed her mother... perhaps the darkness inside of her was finally catching up to her and handing her what she deserved. The idea made her cry even harder.

Eric just watched his sister for a few moments even after she lost it and yelled at him. He didn't know what to do, and so he just kept standing awkwardly on the steps next to her. He wasn't good with the whole emotional thing, he had one of two switches really... angry and calm. He wasn't used to Lily being like this, and it was obvious she wasn't just tired, she wouldn't be practically in hysterics if she was only tired. Taking in a deep breath as if to calm himself he closed his eyes and exhaled as Lily slid to a sitting position on the step. "Obviously your not tired Lily." He let his eyes open for a moment before he looked back toward her, wondering if he should get closer and try to comfort her or leave her the way she was, she wasn't acting her normal self and he really didn't want to get the nasty back lash that she seemed she could do at any moment. His whole body was screaming at him that something else was wrong with her, something he should be concerned about. She was different... he could almost... sense it. His body quivered slightly and he fought back the urge.
"I can't help you if you continue to curl up like a shell and yell at me. I'm asking you to let me help you." Eric said this as calmly as possible so not to set her off again. He rubbed his hand along the side of his face as if to wake himself up somewhat. His mind was getting more and more focused on his senses and he again felt the urge to shift. That was one more thing he didn't want to load on Lily now, she still hasn't known about him being bitten and he wasn't about to let her find out now. She was way too out of sorts for that. Swallowing back a growl he took a step or two forward and sat down heavily on the step a foot or two from her. His blue eyes searched her features again, even as she tried to hide her face. His sister's tears continued to fall onto the step and Eric had this feeling he wasn't going to learn what was really bothering her. Again he racked his brain for some sort of clue as to what the hell would be bothering her this much, but nothing came to mind. It was usually himself who hide the things that bothered him, not Lily... and she most importantly didn't hide them from her brother. Either way he was eager to hear her talk, but instead she defied him and ignored or dodged the situation despite her obvious distressed signs. "Can you please just talk to me?" He said this quietly, his blue eyes staring at her face once more. He didn't want to get angry for her sake.
(OOC-Short post.... but he's pretty much getting no where with her. LOL)

a lot of hope in a one man tent There's no room for innocence. so take me home before the storm. velvet moths will keep us warm. whispering morning keep the streets empty for me. ------------------------------------- Lilian rested her head against the thick, ornate stone railing and closed her eyes tightly, head pounding. He couldn't help her; nobody could help her. Her amber brown eyes opened once more when he sat down beside her. For a moment, she was tempted to turn to him and hug him, resting against him like sh once did as a little girl. She couldn't do it though, she was almost afraid to move.
A heavy silence filled the air after his comment. Pulling her head back up, she turned her face toward him. It was on the tip of her tongue. All she had to do was open her mouth and let the words flow. She could tell him, he could help her. They would figure something out. Her tears had slowed by now.
Just as Lily parted her lips to speak, she looked at her brother. He was tall and handsome, his worried, blue eyes looking at her intensely, urging her to tell him what had her so uptight. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see shadows creeping along the stone walls, reminding her eerily of the demon, Alomir. Whether it was him keeping his watchful gaze on her or not... she just didn't want to know. Just the thought of what Andrew might do to Eric if he found out made her feel nauseous.
Drawing herself back, Lily quickly looked away again. "I can't tell you," she said, face contorting somewhat, as if in pain. Wiping at her tears with the back of her hand, she tried to regain at least some control over her emotions. "I'm sorry, I just can't..."
Practically jumping to her feet, she swore she saw the shadow on the wall receding. "I need to get to bed..." She wanted to run off and leave him there, to save whatever dignity she had left, but she knew he would only catch up to her anyway. Not to mention, she was likely to get in trouble when she got back to the large room that was shared among all of the female students. Surely the student's caretaker had noticed her empty bunk by then.

Alex shifted uncomfortably when she finally admitted that something was wrong. Something was wrong, but she was making it clear that she wasn't going to tell him. He blink at her a few times and swallowed back the anger that was rising up from his belly, it was none of his business then... at least that was what he tried to tell himself. It was hard to just allow her to tell him once again that she couldn't tell him and he found it hard to meet her eyes. He took a deep breath and then let it out in a slow sigh, not trying to push her now since it seemed he was close to pushing his sister over the edge. With a very bad sinking feeling he kept his eyes away from Lily, but he heard her stand. Every sound seemed to echo in the hallway and it was starting to bother Eric, that along with a few other things.
"I know you need to go to bed. Let's go." Eric's tone was flat and almost quick. He hide the hurt and stood slowly, looking at his sister's fragile face for a split second before turning his gaze down the hall and waiting a moment to decide whether or not he should push the matter. His anger was able to stay deep within him and he chose to just take her to her room without saying another single word to her. It was obvious he was upset, as much as the tall blonde tried to hide it. Out of the entire family he was always the easiest to read emotionally, he wore them on his sleeve quite literally.
It didn't take very long to get Lily back, and instead of just dropping her off he spent a good fifteen minutes explaining to the very upset caretaker why she wasn't in her room by the time she was originally suppose to be. Eric was good at stretching the truth and his experience came in handy and he was able to work his magic and force a calming sensation over the caretaker, whether she realized or not he didn't care. He stayed only as long as he needed to, then turned toward his sister and nodded her off, the hurt and confusion radiating off his face even after he turned away from her to walk away. He was split between thinking he was overreacting or whether his sister was hiding something serious from him. Halfway back to his own sleeping corridors he knew for a fact he would be keeping a closer eye on her until it came up again. They needed to talk and he needed to know what was going on for her safety.
