MEMBER GROUPS ARCHMAGE The archmage is the head of the circle of mages and is like a headmaster or headmistress within the tower. The archmage is often the strongest and wisest of the circle members. When an archmage dies or opts to step down from his or her position, the circle elects a new archmage. ARCANE MASTERS Arcane masters are members of the circle. These mages, along with the Archmage, run the show within the tower. When Students complete their schooling, they become the apprentices of the arcane masters. Each master is assigned no more than one apprentice at a time. It's their job to continue the apprentice's training from where they left off as a student, as well as expand the apprentice's knowledge, helping them to become a full fledged mage. Because they need to be within close proximity of their apprentices, arcane masters reside within the tower. Family life is possible for them, though it can be difficult, seeing as the majority of their time is spent with their apprentices. An arcane master could stay with his or her family on weekends, or during holidays. TEACHERS The teachers are in charge of teaching the younglings and the students of the tower, until they are ready to become apprentices. Teachers are not a part of the circle, though many arcane masters started out as teachers. Teachers reside within the tower, but may stay with their families on weekends or during holidays. Like arcane masters, family life can be a little tricky for teachers, though not quite as much. MAGES Mages are free to come and go from the tower as they please. They have already been through their apprenticeship. Many mages stay within the tower because it is the only home they have ever known. APPRENTICES Once it's determined that a student is ready, they begin their apprenticeship under one of the arcane masters. An apprenticeship can last a few years, until the arcane master has determined that said apprentice is ready to become a mage. When this is determined, apprentices are required to pass a test. STUDENTS Just like it's the teacher's job to teach, it's the student's job to learn. Younglings become students at the age of ten and continue until they're ready to become apprentices. Generally, students become apprentices around the age of seventeen or eighteen. It takes at least seven years for a student to become an apprentice. YOUNGLINGS Those gifted with magic often come to the tower at a young age, either because they are sent or abandoned by their families. Sometimes, even infants or toddlers are abandoned and sent to the tower when their abilities are discovered. The younglings are trained only in the basics and taught how to control themselves and their abilities until they become students. TOWER STAFF The tower staff are not always gifted in magic, though it helps if they are. The tower staff includes cooks, maids, caretakers of both the tower and the students/younglings, etc. |
