THE DIVINES ELDWYN God of the heavens and eldest of the divines. Eldwyn is also said to be father of Ostgar and Aldor. Prayers and offerings are made to Eldwyn by those wishing for forgiveness of their sins, or the sins of others, so that they may be welcomed into Eldenar after death. Eldwyn is depicted as an older man with long, white hair, and a strong body clad in brilliant, crystal armor. VASILIS Goddess of earth and nature. Vasilis is said to have created the lands of Ciryatan. Offerings and prayers are made to Vasilis by people such as farmers who wish for a bountiful season of crops. Hunters also make their offerings to Vasilis as she is the goddess of nature and is said to have created all creatures of the land, besides man. Vasilis is depicted as a beautiful dark haired and dark skinned woman with a crown of thorns upon her head. She has a wild appearance, her body adorned with odd markings and completely nude. Most often, she is shown in a more modest light. For instance, her arm may be covering her breasts and whatnot. However, some paintings and drawings of her still portray the goddess as what she actually is, never failing to cause at least one person to blush. ILLYRI Goddess of the seas. Illyri created the oceans, rivers and every body of water you see. She blessed the lands with rain so that crops could grow and gave the sea life. Offerings are made to Illyri mostly by fisherman and sea faring people. Farmers also pray to this goddess for rain. Illyri is depicted as a beautiful woman with a fair complexion and brown hair. She is usually shown to be wearing a very light, blue dress as she rises from the depths of the ocean, or any body of water. Some works of art show her to be wearing a surprisingly beautiful dress of seaweed or just seashells. ARENGAR The god of air and winds. Arengar is believed to be the jealous lover of Illyri. Storms are said to rage across the lands of Ciryatan when the lovers quarrel. Arengar is the creator of the creatures of the sky, dragons included. Offerings and prayers are made to Arengar to appease the god in the hopes of there being no deadly storms. Arengar is most often depicted as a large, brilliant silver dragon. In his human form, he is shown to be a young, silver haired man with sharp features and silver, dragon scale armor. There is often some type of bird or a small dragon sitting upon his shoulder. FORVAL God of the sun and light. Forval created the sun to help sustain the life in Ciryatan that Ostgar and Vasilis created. He gifted man kind with fire so that they would know warmth in the cold and so that they could fend off the shadows of corruption. During the early days of mankind, Forval fell deeply in love with a beautiful, human woman by the name of Lucine. Their love created the child goddess, Saeri. When Aldor cursed Ciryatan with inevitable death, Lucine was among the first to succumb to mortality. Forval, who is depicted as a strong god, wept for his lost love. As he wept, his tears fell from the heavens to Ciryatan, sinking into the soil. From that soil, magnificent, fiery flowers bloomed and became known as "Forval's Flame," "Forval's Tear," or, among the Ial elves "Ignis Lamenta" or "Sun's Tear." Forval's Flame is a rare flower said to have many beneficial healing properties. The flower is a magnificent, fiery color and, at night, lets off a faint glow as if it is actually aflame. Forval is usually shown to be wearing brilliant, golden armor, a flaming sword in hand. OSTGAR God of life and creation. Ostgar is the father of man. Offerings are made to Ostgar in the hopes of protection and guidance through life. He is also the god to turn to for fertility or during times of pregnancy. ALDOR The god of death. Jealous and vengeful, Aldor cursed life upon Ciryatan with inevitable death. Offerings and prayers are given to Aldor by those who wish illness or death upon others. Aldor is cursed to spend all of eternity in Mourinor, where he is forced to watch over the souls of the corrupt. Because he is condemned to the underworld, Aldor sends others to do his bidding. Aldor is most often depicted as wearing blackened armor, sitting upon a throne of skulls. VERENA Goddess of corruption. Verena is believed to be the lover of Aldor and works alongside him, as his equal, to bring down the other divines and corrupt life in Ciryatan. Long before Aldor was cursed to rule over Mourinor, Verena was sent to the underworld so that no one would ever fall victim to her corruption and hatred. When Aldor arrived, he unleashed Verena upon Ciryatan. Prayers and offerings are made to this goddess by the corrupt and those seeking destruction. Verena is usually depicted as a red haired woman wearing either black or red. Sometimes she is wearing black or red armor while other times she is wearing a dress. A crow or raven usually sits upon her shoulder and she can often be seen with an apple in her hand. SAERI Goddess of the night and moon. Saeri is not considered to be one of the original divines and had no hand in the creating of Ciryatan. When Saeri was born to the god Forval and his human lover, Lucine, the night was born with her. The moon is said to be her joyous, childish light, shining down to guide those who may be fearful through the night. Because she is the child goddess, Saeri is also the protector of children and is known for her stealth and childish pranks. Saeri is depicted as a little girl with pale skin and long, black hair. |
